How to use the Ethical Principles
The Ethical Principles are designed to guide history teachers in curriculum construction. They should be a spark for departmental, school, or trust-level planning discussions and be brought into contact with knowledge of the children for whom the planning is being done. The Ethical Principles should enable professional discussions around:
- Choices related to specific classroom and historical pedagogies.
- Choices related to meaningful assessment.
- Choices related to enabling pupils to respond to their curriculum.
The Ethical Principles can help guide the planning of single units, all the way up to schemes of work or whole Key Stage plans. They should be a spark for professional discussion and debate.
