SHP Understanding

SHP Understanding has been part of the SHP CPD offer since 2020. The aim of SHP Understanding events is to connect teachers, historians, social activists and others to inform and reshape our teaching of key topic areas in the curriculum. The aim of all SHP Understanding sessions is to empower teachers to consider the needs of young people studying particular historical topics today and to involve young people in the live historical issues which continue to shape our world.

Upcoming Events

We have several upcoming SHP Understanding events. More details on these will be shared soon. Please check back or sign up to our mailing list for updates.

Understanding Teaching Medieval Women – 18th January 2025 1-5pm (the event starts at 2pm, the first hour is an optional tour of the exhibition)

Our forthcoming SHP Understanding event on Teaching Medieval Women will be taking place on Saturday January 18th.  We will be starting with a workshop for 6th form students that will investigate a range of sources from the Medieval Women exhibition from the British Library. This will be followed by three micro-keynote lectures from the Teaching Medieval Women team, Professor Jonathan Phillips (Royal Holloway) talking about Women and Religion, Dr Natasha Hodgson (Nottingham Trent) talking about Women and Movement and Dr Ellie Woodacre (Winchester) talking about Women and Power. The event will conclude with a panel discussion bring together our academic historians with school history teachers and students.

You can register for a ticket, which also gives you free admission to the exhibition with a guided tour from one of our guest speakers, by emailing d.lyndon-cohen@leedstrinity.ac.uk
