Spring e-News 2016

Message from Michael

We are delighted that SHP’s new GCSE specification is now accredited. OCR B (SHP) has been planned with SHP principles at its heart and we believe that it offers an innovative and exciting GCSE course. We hope that you and your students enjoy the SHP GCSE in the years ahead.

High quality resources will be essential for successful introduction of the new GCSE and SHP is working with our publishing partner Hodder Education to ensure that the new specification is fully resourced before teaching. The thematic studies are now in production and the writing and editing of the British depth studies will be completed over the next couple of months. See below for the publication dates.

This year’s SHP summer conference (8-10 July) will feature sessions on planning and teaching the OCR B specification. It will also provide support for teaching the range of new GCSEs, as well as Key Stage 3 and A level. The summer conference is always the highlight of the SHP year. I hope you can join us.

You may have already visited SHP’s has a new website. We hope you like the new format. Sally Thorne, SHP’s new web manager, will be adding new resources each month so keep visiting.

All our Regional Advisers are experienced teachers who have developed rigorous and creative approaches to teaching history. Many of them will be teaching the new SHP GCSE (OCR B) so do contact them if you need advice on this or an other aspects of history teaching.
