For all teachers, their training year is hugely important – the training you get is often one of the biggest influences on your career, your outlook and you attitude as a teacher.

This collection of ‘challenges’, put together by SHP Fellow and History PGCE lecturer at Leeds Trinity University, Alex Ford (Twitter: @apf102, blog: andallthat) offers a menu of training activities that might help trainee history teachers who might be missing out on the last parts of their course. It is designed to be flexible, supportive and challenging at the same time. Its activities tie together historical and pedagogical learning and introduce new teachers into the history-teaching community.
